Braille Spelling

This app is for sighted people to practice recognizing Braille letters.

Eh? Whats Dr. Bill (that bald, Deaf guy) doing coming up with a Braille app? Actually, this little app is the unexpected (but still loved) child of my rather popular Fingerspelling app. One of my sign language students informed me that she used Braille in her work and I thought, "I wish I could read Braille!" So, I did what most people do and googled it. All those little dots seemed rather cryptic and I then thought, "Gee, wouldnt it be great if there were an app that would show me the letters of a word in Braille and test me to see if I got it right?! I wish somebody would create an app like my fingerspelling app but use Braille instead." One head-slap later I plugged 26 Braille letters into my fingerspelling app, crossed my fingers and -- it worked!
The app spells out an individual word by showing you Braille dots on your screen. If you need to see the word again, press "repeat." If you recognize the word, type it in (using your iPhone or iPads keyboard) for confirmation and scorekeeping. I know there is a lot more to learning to actually read Braille than just recognizing "letters" (like punctuation and contractions, etc.), but youve got to start somewhere if you want to get anywhere. Enjoy!
